About US

Eliza Harvey is an Australian journalist whose fast-paced career has taken her to global hotspots like Hobart, Karratha and East Perth.

Eliza left her job as a presenter on the ABC's Weekend Breakfast television program because she wasn't being sufficiently challenged by the mix of 4.30am start times and life with a newborn. Seeking a more complex existence, she moved her young family to a city without a park or a footpath: Jakarta. Then it was onto the urban jungle of Beirut in Lebanon before returning home to Sydney because of the pandemic in March 2020.

Eliza used to phone home for her weekly chat with her Mum, Geraldine Doogue. But now they sit in Geraldine’s living room near the budgies and the chiming clock.

Geraldine is an accomplished ABC presenter, an enthusiastic caroller and avid composter who knows how to sort the petunias from the primulas. She’s been a household name for decades through her work on news and current affairs, most recently on Radio National’s Saturday Extra and ABC TV’s Compass, but she thinks that Long Distance Call could be her best chance at lasting fame.

Both women are news junkies, mothers and avid Netflix fans. They’re fiercely competitive and haven’t dared play Scrabble together since it all went horribly wrong at Christmas 2014.

Tune in once a week for half an hour of laughs and smart talk.
